The Copenhagen Food Co-Op
Københavns Fødevarefællesskab – the Copenhagen food co-op – is a good example of a professional ‘pot luck’. It’s an organic wholesale co-op which brings organic quality vegetables from local farmers at prices that are affordable to anyone. If you become a member, you have to put in three hours of work every month, making sure that the vegetables make it all the way from farm to fork.
Every member contributes with whatever they find enjoyable and interesting to do. The tasks range from ordering goods, packing bags, manning the shops, sharing recipes and preparing tasty samples to communicating about ecology and local food, organizing parties, running a communal kitchen at the Roskilde Festival and developing the website. Everything happens in a local, committed community.
